What are you seeing?
There's so much theatre in Cincinnati right now . . .what are you gonna see?
I just wanted to pop on for a second and remind you how much amazing theatre we have in the Greater Cincinnati area and prompt you to see as much of it as you can.
I got a taste of Cincy Shakes’ latest offering - the Brant Russell-directed “As You Like It,” featuring brand new music from Cary Davenport. Musicals are ambitious enough, and then trying to make sense out of one of Shakespeare’s lesser scripts . . . well, this cast and crew are working hard, and the preview audience I was with was laughing and clapping and enjoying. You might, too!
Opening this week is “Who All Over There?” It’s a brand new play written by Torie Wiggins and is an updated take on the classic “Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner” story. I can’t wait to head to Ensemble Theatre to see it.
My favorite musical of all time, “Spring Awakening,” also opens this week at CCM. It is definitely my most anticipated show of the season - look for a review coming soon. It’s sold out, but you might be able to stand by. Call the CCM Box office for information.
I mentioned Brant Russell earlier, as he’s directing at Cincy Shakes - but he’s also written a new play called “Bankers” that will debut at Know Theatre of Cincinnati on Friday, April 21st. It’s a dystopian story and features some amazing talent, including Jim Hopkins and a rare stage appearance from k. Jenny Jones. I’ll be there on opening night.
Don’t forget “A Chorus Line,” which closes on April 14th at the Playhouse in the Park as well as “The Chinese Lady” in the Shelterhouse Theatre on their newly renovated campus, which runs until April 30th.
As always, you can read about every single stage show and more at Rob Bucher’s amazingly detailed website, "Behind the Curtain Cincinnati.”
Get out there and see some theatre!
