“Cinderella” was chock-full of talented singers, dancers, and performers. The wigs and makeup by Colin Gallaher were world-class. The singing, especially from Peter Neureuther (“Topher”), Sasha Spitz (“Ella), Ali Bossart (“Marie”), and Alloria Frasier (“Gabrielle), was professional-level. Jack D’Angelo was captivating as “Sebastian,” and Sarah Pansing and Julia Yameen nearly stole the show as the villainous “Madame” and “Charlotte,” respectively. I also enjoyed the chemistry between Frasier and Stanislav Przedlacki (“Jean-Michelle.")
But despite the stellar talent involved, I never fully connected with the show; despite the rich singing from the entire cast and the talented dancers in the ensemble, I was never pulled into the action.
Some of it is personal taste, too. I found the score to be a little monotonous; all the songs sound alike. I thought the set was a little bland. I enjoyed the special effects, but the big one - the dress reveal in Act One - didn’t seem to go as smoothly as it could have.
Congratulations to the cast and crew and I appreciate the efforts of all involved. I just wanted something more, I guess.
