I would probably see anything Laurie Metcalf is in - and “Grey House” might be the proof of that. That’s not to say that I didn’t enjoy it; I’m honestly not sure what I think. As the lights came up, I sat there briefly and said to myself, “Huh.”
I still don’t know what I think, but I’m watching videos with the cast and reading other people’s thoughts and realizing that the fact that this is the kind of play that makes you sit with your thoughts for a while. I will not be telling you anything about it because it is absolutely important that you see it cold, with no prior knowledge of what you’re about to see.
I will tell you this - it’s horror, psychological thriller, and supernatural allegory. It’s as funny as it is shocking - and if you see it on Broadway, you will see the brilliant Laurie Metcalf live and in person, making the best choices and guiding the entire cast through a very difficult story. (It also features Paul Sparks from “House of Cards,” Tatiana Maslany (“She-Hulk,” “Orphan Black”), Sophia Anne Caruso (“Beetlejuice” on Broadway), Millicent Simmonds (“A Quiet Place”) and others. It’s directed by Joe Mantello, whose work on stage is unparalleled (“Wicked,” “Take Me Out,” and dozens of others), and the precision of his direction is imperative for this piece to work.
If you’re afraid to go because you don’t like horror, I can promise nothing attacks you in the audience, nor is there a whole lot of gore. But there are some very fun surprises and a script that I’d like to read now that I’ve seen the show, as I know there are nuances and layers I missed.
Somebody go see it so we can talk about it, please?

I love Laurie Metcalf! Would love to see this! Even though I don't like horror usually.
