Inside Cincy's Arts: A Walking Tour
This cooperation between ArtsWave and American Legacy Tours is a Five out of Five Experience
ArtsWave, the engine for the arts in the Cincinnati region and the primary funder, convener, and promoter of the region's arts, has partnered with American Legacy Tours to create a two-hour walking tour in Over-the-Rhine. The tour, which features stops at places like Know Theatre of Cincinnati, Art Academy of Cincinnati, Music Hall, Memorial Hall, Cincinnati Shakespeare Company, School for Creative & Performing Arts, Ensemble Theatre Cincinnati, The Children’s Theatre of Cincinnati, and ArtsWave, is both entertaining and informative.
As someone with advanced knowledge of the local arts scene - especially theatre and live performance - I learned a lot about the fascinating history behind the architecture, downtown murals, and the founding of the vibrant arts culture that Cincinnati continues to foster today. Less knowledgeable patrons would find the tour interesting - and good exposure to our various opportunities here. Come prepared to walk briskly and pack as many stops as possible in two hours. And maybe bring a water bottle and some sunscreen.
Our tour guide, Eric, was personable, knowledgeable, and easy to listen to. He answered questions, set a good pace and tone, and demonstrated passion for the various things he was showing us. What a great ambassador for both the arts and the city at large. We also met Liz Carman from Know Theatre, the kindest marketing director in Cincinnati theater by a landslide, and Jordan Whittaker, a current apprentice at Ensemble Theatre of Cincinnati. Jordan’s passion for ETC is palpable.
My favorite parts of the tour were seeing the stage manager’s perch at Know Theatre, learning about the various design elements of the buildings that house some of my favorite artistic organizations, and seeing the Lincoln Wreath in Memorial Hall.
This was my first ALT tour. I’m sold on taking more; who wants to come with me?
