FRINGE: The Rembrandt Job is Super Fun!
This ripped-from-the-1973-headlines story is hilarious and locally sourced.
Kevin Crowley is a master storyteller, knowing how to take factual - and local - lore and mine it for comedy. “The Rembrandt Job” is the true story of an art heist at the Taft Museum of Art in 1973 and contains plenty of laughs and local references delighting the sold-out audience at Gabriel’s Corner this afternoon.
Dale Hodges, Cincinnati’s Queen of Acting, narrates the action and doesn’t miss a beat recanting this heist-gone-wrong tale, casually interacting with the rest of the cast: Michael G. Bath, Evan Beckmeyer, Jack Kremer, Grant Zentmeyer, Clint Brakamp, and a barely recognizable Paul Morris as the notorious “James Hough.” Carol Brammer directs, with support from James Jones (set, costumes, props) and my favorite stage manager, Annette Ouchie.
The star of this show, though, is the script as Crowley’s unique sense of humor keeps us engaged as we power through the curious narrative. He and Brammer together have crafted a show that could certainly have legs beyond Fringe, something I feel like I’ve said before about other of Crowley’s work.\
The Rembrandt Job continues on the following dates at Gabriel’s Corner as part of the Cincinnati Fringe Festival:
Tuesday, June 6 @ 7 PM
Thursday, June 8 @ 8:45 PM
Saturday, June 10 @ 8:45 PM
