FRINGE: Bloodline is a Powerful Portrait of Three Generations
Paris Clayton III plays himself, his father, and his grandfather in this engaging solo show
I’m a sucker for solo performances, especially ones based on real-life stories. Paris Crayton III has written a lovely tribute to his family; he plays three generations of men - all named Paris - which includes himself.
Crayton touches on several themes, including suicide, internalized homophobia, divorce, and alcoholism. But the theme that stood out the most was love. Wearing a shirt that says, “Black men loving black men is revolutionary,” Crayton embodies all of his characters with subtle distinction and nuance - but they all share one thing in common: passion. They’ve all got a zest for life, but more importantly, they have love for their family.
Paris is a charismatic and engaging performer. This is obviously a passion project, and it deserves to be seen. You’ve got one more chance tomorrow at 4 PM at Know Theatre. Tickets and more can be found here.
