FRINGE: Anatomica is a Breath of Fresh Air
Amica Hunter's conversational style sets you at ease while teaching you a few things.
One of the buzziest shows this year has been “Anatomica,” from Amica Hunter. It’s hard to define, really - it’s performance art mixed with educational lecture and audible memoir. And it’s really, really good.
Hunter starts the show without saying a word, yet garnering generous laughs. The full house that I saw the show with included all generations - including a baby wearing headphones, some pre-teens, and your typical Fringe audience. Hunter didn’t skip a beat, even when the lively crowd interacted without an invite. In fact, because of their low-key conversational style, it is easy to forget you are watching a performance. (That’s a compliment, in case you were wondering.)
Talking about various types of skeletons and relating them to their own chronic pain, Hunter is relatable, engaging, and infinitely likable. But it’s also an expertly crafted piece of theatre, with a solid beginning, middle, and end - camouflaged so well, you’ll walk away wondering what you’d just seen and wishing for more.
Anatomica is definitely a must-see. There are two more performances:
Tuesday, June 13th at 6:45 PM
Thursday, June 15th at 6:45 PM
